When the Floods Took Everything, Humanity Rose Again

In these heartbreaking days, Sri Lanka has been shaken by the devastating Ditwa thunderstorm, leaving behind a trail of sorrow that words can hardly express.

Families were torn apart, homes were swept away, and dreams built over a lifetime disappeared in moments.

Hundreds of lives have been affected, many are still missing, and thousands of innocent people have been displaced with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.

In this unbearable tragedy, the Asian Human Rights Council stands by our people with love, humanity, and unwavering responsibility.
From the first moment the disaster struck, our teams stepped into the water, into the darkness, into the fear — simply because our people needed us.

We delivered essential food, clean drinking water, dry rations, and emergency supplies to families who had lost everything.
We provided life jackets to rescue teams and volunteer forces, ensuring their safety as they risked their own lives to save others.

But even in the greatest suffering, we witnessed powerful humanity.

A Heartfelt Tribute to a True Humanitarian, We extend our deepest gratitude to: Asian Human Rights Council, Kaluthara District Director Mr. Nandana Dissanayaka — Founder of Parayana Sahruda Sansadaya and Managing Director of Hansi Textiles and Managing Director Mr. Niroshana of Diyakawa Water Sports – Aluthgama In a moment when our nation was drowning in fear and loss, they rose with courage and compassion.

Their support, generosity, and quick response became a lifeline for countless families who had nowhere else to turn.

🌧️ Our Work Continues — Hope Must Not Stop Here

Even today, many families are struggling. Children who once carried school bags now hold nothing. Mothers who once cooked warm meals now sit in shelters, unsure of tomorrow.
Fathers who worked hard every day now look at empty homes and broken roads.

This is why we continue our mission without stopping.

In the last week of December, we are preparing to distribute school stationery for children affected by the floods:
📘 Exercise Books
🎒 School Bags
👟 Shoes
🥤 Water Bottles
🍱 Lunch Boxes
🖊️ Pens & Pencils

These may look like simple items, but for a child who lost everything…
they are hope, dignity, and a new beginning.

🤝 We Need You — Together, We Can Rebuild Lives

If your heart tells you to help, please join us. Every contribution, big or small, becomes a light in someone’s darkness. Because when a nation stands together, no storm is strong enough to break us.
